09-445Susnension 4/22/09 RESOLUTION � Presented by Council File # 09-445 Green Sheet # 3069760 PAUL, MINNESOTA Honoring Recipients of the 2009 Sustainable Saint Paul Awards 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 Whereas, the City of Saint Paul has long worked to proactively protect our air, water, and urban landscape; and Whereas, Mayor Christopher B. Coleman and the Saint Paul City Council are committed to making Saint Paul "The Most Livable City in America" and a leader in sustainable urban living; and Whereas, the City has already taken many steps toward making Saint Paul one of the greenest cities in the country, including hiring the CiTy's first sustainability coordinator, water resources and energy coordinators, formally endorsing the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement; investing more than $1 million to reduce energy use in City buildings; adopting a Green Development Policy for New and Renovated Municipal Buildings; directing City fleets to use biofuels, and adding hybrid vehicles to the City fleet; making development of the National Great River Park and Central Corridor Light Rail Transit top City priorities; and launching the GreenGatherings initiative with Ramsey County; and 15 Whereas, the City initiated the Sustainable Saint Paul Awards to honor outstanding achievements of individuals, 16 businesses, and organizations that are protecting and restoring the environment of Saint Paul; and 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 Whereas, the awards pay tribute to individuals, businesses, and organizations that are demonstrating a commitment to environmental stewardship through leadership throughout Saint Paul and beyond; and Whereas, by sponsoring these awazds, the City hopes to encourage all residents, businesses, community groups, and nonprofits in Saint Paul to implement similar projects, such that replication of these efforts will further enhance the City's quality of life; now therefore be it Resolved, that the City of Saint Paui honors the outstanding dedication of the employees, participants and volunteers for their ]eadership in 2008.
