FILE WHEREAS, The tCommissioner of.Public Works has reported, in accordance with Section '53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergency during the period from March 1 to March 15, 1958 which rendered necessary the employment of certain employees of the Department of Public Works for more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the following work: Emergency street, building, sewer & bridge repair Dispatching men for emergency repair work Dispatching motor vehicles for all emergency work Operating equipment on emergency repair work Emergency calls for sewer maintenance Removing snow, ice and debris from city streets Tending fires at Asphalt Plant on Sundays & holidays Emergency garbage pickup Taking care of complaints at city yards Drawing plans & specifications for grading & paving jobs Mimeographing grade profiles & revising house numbers Servicing municipal equipment Making up sidewalk assessments Inspecting city improvement jobs Completing payroll work Council File No. 186626 —By Adrian P. Winkel— Resolved, That the proper city offi- cers are hereby authorized to pay certain employes in the Department; of Public Works for extra employment as described in the resolution. Adopted by the Council. March 19, 1958. Approved March 19, 1958. (March 22, 1958) And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and circumstances: Necessity of answering all emergency repair calls, keeping city streets free from snow, ice and debris, keeping fires at Asphalt Plant continuously, pm taking complaints at city yards, completing grading & paving plans, need for grade profiles and house numbers completing sidewalk assessments, keeping city equipment in good running condition, inspecting work done by contractors on city jobs and completing payroll work. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the proper city officers are hereby authorized to pay the employees who performed such work in accordance with the provisions of the Council's salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 6446.
