WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Parks., Playgrounds and
Public Buildings has reported, in accordance with
Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of an
emergency during the period from October 1 to 115,
1958., which rendered necessary the employment of
certain employees of the Department of Parks,
Playgrounds and Public Buildings for more than
eight hours per day or forty hours per week in
doing the following work:
Supervision' operation, maintenance,
care and protection of public parks and
playgrounds and of their facilities.
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the follow-
ing facts and circumstancest
Seasonal requirements for protection of
public property and pursuit of depart-
mental activities, such as: Heavy, week-
end patronage of public parks and their
facilities, the Zoo, Conservatory, refec-
tories and golf courses; Sunday afternoon
municipal football; repairs to equipment
when forced by necessity to do the work after
regular hours.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the proper city officers
are rhereby. authorized to pay the employees who per
formed such work in accordance with the provisions
of the Council's salary ordinance, Ordinance No.
6446.

Dear Sir:
This is:. in the matter. of the application of Robert A. Kuehlwein, doing
business as the Korner Kar Mart,'for a permit to install and.operate a
used car sales lot on property located on the west side of Rice Street
between Wheelock Parkway and Hoyt Avenue. This property is described
as Lots 10, '11, 12 -and 13, Block 8, Rice Street Villas. The zoning -is
Commercial.
The adjacent land uses are as follows: south and adjoining is the rear
yard of ,a single family residence fronting on Albemarle Street; north.
and adjoining is, vacant land; west across an unimproved alley is a single
family residence fronting on Albemarle Street; east across Rice Street is
an ice vending machine.
The property under consideration has a frontage of 100 feet on Rice Street
and extends westerly to a depth of 125 feet, producing an area of 12,500
square feet, and will have a capacity of 25 cars.
The proposed layout and operation have been approved by'the Traffic Engi-
neer and the applicant's plans meet existing standards for this type of
facility. Field investigation discloses no objection from the standpoint
of adjacent land use or traffic.
In consideration of these factors, the Board of Zoning recommends that
this permit for a used car sales lot on the above described.property be
granted.in accordance with applicant's plans approved September 4, 1958.
