WHEREAS, Miss Jes had performed Arth h performed i� an out ng
various tennis activities, both locally, statewide and nationally, as a life-
long resident of the City of St. Paul; and
WHEREAS', During the month of August, 1958, won the Women's National Doubles
Tennis Tournament; and
WHEREAS, She reached the semi - finals in the National Women's Singles Tour-
nament at Forest Hills, New York; and
WHEREAS, in 1957, -she was ranked 7th in the National Women's Singles Divi-
sion, which is the highest rating ever attained by a male or female Minnesotan;
and
WHEREAS, Miss Arth won her first St. Paul Municipal Tennis Tournament ten
years ago, and for the,last five years has been the Women's Singles Champion,
and with-her sister, Shirley, has been Women's Doubles Champion of Minnesota
for the same period of time; and
WHEREAS, Miss Arth's outstanding competitive play in tennis activity has
brought fame to the City of St. Paul;
BE IT RESOLVED., That we, the Mayor and members of the Council of the City
of St. Paul, for ourselves and on behalf of all the citizens of St. Paul, hereby
commend and congratulate and extend our thanks to Miss Jeanne Arth for her
splendid accomplishments ; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk is hereby directed to present
to Miss Jeanne Arth a certified copy of this Resolution as a token of our appre-
ciation and pride in her fine accomplishments.
