WI�REAS, the Department of Public Works applied for and received the FY 2009 Metcopolitan Emargency
Seroices Board Grant to purchase 800 MI-Iz radios, and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is required to pay a 20% matching fund contribution of $26,150.06, and
WFIEREAS, the City of Saint Paul will receive MESB funding of $104,600.25, and
WI�REAS, upon receipt of this �rant the City is obligated to appropriate a tota] of $130,75031.
NOW THEREFORE IT BE RESOLVED, that the City Council accepts the FY 2009 MESB grant and authorizes the
City to enter into an agreement with the MESB to accept the grant and, a oopy of said grant agreement is to be kept
on file and of record in the Office of Financial Services.

Initiating Problem, Issues, Opportunity (VJho, What, When, Where, Why):
The City is converting to an interoperable communications system whereby all departments providing emergency services will be able
to communicate with each other on a common iadio system. The Fire and Police Departments have completed the transikon, but
Public Works and Pazks & Rec. have yet to complete purchasing the necessary equipment. Therefore Public Works and Pazks & Rec.
aze sfill required to use the old VHF and TJHF radio systems and can not communicate with either Police or Fire in an emergency.
Advantages If Approved:
The City saves money by paying a reduced amount to purchase the rndio equipment.
DisadVantages If Approved:
The City does have to pay 20% match in order to receive the grant.
Disadvantages If Not Approved:
Radios will not be pvrchased and the Interoperable Communicarion System will remain incomplete.
