SUMMIT AVENUE and GROTTO STREET • ST.
PAUL, MINNESOTA
November 18, 1955
Mr. Joseph R. Okoneski, City Clerk
386 City Hall and Court House
St. Paul 2, Minnesota Re Council File No. 189 755
Dear Mr. Okoneski:
Your letter of October 31st to Mr. Gerald Stanxell, inclosing a copy of
a resolution adopted by the City Council on.that day, authorizing the
installation of a so— called "Honor Box" for circulation of the
Christian Science Monitor near 6th and Minnesota-Streets., has been re-
ferred to me for response.
We appreciate the favorable action taken by the City to make available
to readers of the`Monitor in the city an honor box for convenient pur-
chase. Unfortunately, however, the resolution, through an apparent
misunderstanding, was drafted to grant the permit to the "Christian
Science Monitor" instead of "First Church of Christ, Scientist, St. Paul,
Minnesota." The Christian Science Monitor is an international daily news-
paper with offices in Boston, Massachusetts, and the honor box project is
one being undertaken by First Church of Christ, Scientist, St. Paul.
I am taking the liberty of sending a copy of this letter to
Mr. Robert E. O'Connell, Assistant Corporation Counsel, with whom I dis-
cussed the matter and I presume that the proper city officials will be
agreeable to either amending the resolution to substitute First Church
of Christ, Scientist, St. Paul, Minnesota, for the Christiail'Science
Monitor or to repeal the existing resolution and adopt a new one. It is
the Christian Science Monitor which the Church proposes to make avail-
able in the honor box but the Church is not an agent for the Monitor
authorized to enter into agreements in its behalf.
Your early reconsideration- of the matter will be greatly appreciated.
Yours truly_,

Dear Mr. O'Connell:
We are inclosing a copy of a letter we have today sent to

greatly appreciate your assistance in getting this matter straightened
out so that the resolution will run in favor of First Church of Christ,
Scientist, St. Paul, Minnesota.
Upon receipt of a resolution in favor of the Church, we shall pro-
teed to direct required letter to the City Clerk, signed by an
