WHEREAS, The Riverview Little League, Inc. initiated a highly
successful baseball program for the little leaguers of St. Paul's
West Side in 1957; and
WHEREAS, West Side residents responded to the fund - raising promotions of
the Riverview Little League, Inc., and helped to provide funds
which enabled that organization to re- surface Michalsen's Field,
enlarge the back -stops and to furnish full uniforms for 60 boys
in the Mayor division and shirts and caps for eight teams in
the minor division; and
WHEREAS, the Riverview Little League will initiate its 1958 schedule on
June',7th, Saturday, with a double - header between the Yankees
and the Dodgers in the first game and the Braves and the Red Sox
in the second; and
WHEREAS, civic ceremonies preceding the ball games will include a parade
through the West Side area to the baseball field and participation
by neighborhood and city civic leaders; and
WHEREAS, the "Play Ball" Program of the Riverview Little League has
been,instrumental in teaching the fundamentals of baseball and is
instilling the principles of sportsmanship and team- cooperation in

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,' TRAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAINT PAUL
do hereby proclaim the week of June 7th through 14th as Little
League Baseball Week for St. Paul's West Side; and do hereby urge
all residents of that sector of the community to join in support
of this outstanding program, to participate in opening day ceremonies
and to attend scheduled games in the season ahead.
