AREAS, There is an urgent need for the improvement of Trunk Highway #212,
commonly known as the Stillwater Road, in order to meet present-and future traffic
requirements and to improve the distribution and traffic access in the rapidly
developing area from the St. Paul city limits easterly and northeasterly and also
within the city limits, and
WHEREAS, The principal highway route within these limits is inadequate and
the closely built -up abutting property precludes widening and reconstruction
except at great expense, and
WHEREAS, The particulex need for improvement is from the existing underpass
on Trunk Highway #212 approximately four miles east of the east city limits
westerly to and into the City of St. Paul, and
WHEREAS, The rapid development by housing and other construction is rapidly
restricting the possible available routes for such relocation of Trunk Highway #212,
thus making it essential that a route be selected and right of way acquired within
the relatively near future; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Commissioner of Highways be requested to take the necessary
steps such as traffic investigations, surveys and engineering studies at'the
earliest possible date, with a view to establishing a new and adequate route for
Trunk Highway #212 and acquiring the necessary right of way, following with highway
construction.
