WHEREAS, Nick J. Smith, Chairman of the Housing and
Redevelopment Authority of the City of Saint Paul, Minnesota,
an outstanding labor figure in this City and State for a
number of years, was called from this life in his 56th year,
on the 21st of June, 1958, after many years of valuable service
on his part in the interests of citizens of the City of Saint
Paul, Mr. Smith having been secretary of Hod Carriers Building
and Common Laborers Union Local No. 132 for over 20 years and
having served as president of the St. Paul Building Trades
Council and the Minnesota Building Trades Council as well as
having performed outstanding service "with numerous civic
organizations in the City of Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, his death has occasioned a great sense of loss and
deprivation to his wife, Nellie M. Smith, his children, relatives,
friends and acquaintances throughout the City of Saint Paul; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Council on its own behalf and on behalf
of the citizens of the City of Saint Paul hereby takes cognizance
of the numerous services rendered to this City and community by
said Nick J. Smith and hereby extends sympathy and condolence to
his surviving spouse, Nellie M. Smith and to the members of his
family; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk is authorized and directed
to prepare an engrossed copy of this resolution and deliver the same,
as soon as such may conveniently be done, to the surviving Nellie M.'
Smith and family. i
