WHEREAS, in January, 2010, the City of Saint Paul - O�ce of Human Resources wiA begin accepting
applications for the Firefighter examination,
4 the number of applicants applying to take the 2010 Firefighter examination will be very high,
5 WHEREAS, the costs to establish, administer, and score the examination increase proportionately in
6 relation to the number of applicants,
7 WHEREAS, to offset the high costs associated with administration of the Fir�ghter examination, the
8 Office of Human Resources will require each applicant to pay a$25.00 application fee. An economic hardship

waiver will be available upon filing a request for review by the O�ce of Human Resources for those applicants
who are financialty unabfe to pay the application fee.
WHEREAS, based on the number of applicants of previous Firefighter examinations, it is anticipated that
RESOLVED, that the City Counci! of the City of Saint Paul hereby approves the $25.00 application fee to
cover the cosks associated with the 2010 Firefighter examination and approves establishment of economic
hardship waivers based upon criteria to be determined by the Director of Human Resources.

The Office of Human Resources woutd have to absorb the additional wst not collected tVnough an app7ication fee. The amount to be
collected from the application fee has been built into the 2010 budget and, wiihoui ihis money, coul@ create undo strain on the Office
of Human Resources budget that may result in additional reductions in other vital areas of the office.
