WHEREAS, THE Commissioner of Public Works has reported in accordance with Section
53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergency during the period from
December 1 to December'15, 1959, which rendered necessary the employment of
cettain employees of the Department of Public Works, for more than eight hours
per day or forty hours per week in doing the following work:
Emergency street, building, sewer & Bridge repair
Dispatching men for emergency repair work
Dispatching motor vehicles for all emergency work
Operating equipment on emergency repair work
Emergency calls for sewer maintenance
Removing debris: and snow from city street & sanding icy streets
Tending fire at Asphalt Plant on Sundays & holidays
Taking care of complaints at city yards
Drawing plans & specifications for grading & paving jobs
Mimeographing grade profiles & revising house numbers
Servicing municipal equipment
Making up sidewalk assessments
Inspecting city improvement jobs
And 'WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and circum-
stances:
Necessity of answering all emergency repair calls, keeping city streets
free from snow, ice & debris, keeping fires at Asphalt Plantcontinuously,
taking complaints at city yards, completing plans & specificationsfor grading
& paving jobs, need for grade profiles and house numbers, completing sidewalk'
assessments, keeping city equipment in good running condition, and inspecting'
work done by contractors on street & sidewalk work.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the proper city officers are hereby authorized to
pay the employees who performed such work in accordance with the provisions
of the Councills salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 616.
