Dear Mr . Mayor:-
The Third Annual American Visitors' Weekend will be held in
Winnipeg, June 19, 20 and 21, in conjunction with the opening of the Red
River Exhibition.
I take great pleasure in extending to you personally, and to your
citizens, this invitation to participate directly in this gala weekend.
I feel that American Visitors, Weekend, as a stimulus to friendly
visits to our city, does much to promote better understandir}g between our
two great countries. The benefits of such friendship extend far beyond our
immediate area. Therefore, I do not underestimate the importance of this
occasion.
This year I have proclaimed the period June 19, 20 and 21 as,.-,.-,..
American Visitors, Weekend. Perhaps you would, in return, roclaim Z
Winnipeg Visitors' Weekend in your area, o
Parades, receptions, Red River Exhibition events such as our beauty
contest culminating in the crowning of Miss Manitoba, musical events,
international sports events, agricultural displays and competitions, Royal
American Shows, national celebrities, religious programs, industrial and
home exhibits, handicrafts and other expressions of our culture make the
1959 American Visitors, Weekend a highlight of the year, with events to•
entertain the entire family.
One of our great attractions will be the daily appearances of the United
States Air Force Band from Washington, D.C. , presenting their "Symphony
in the Sky " .
