May S, 1959 To the Mayor and Council: (c/o the Clerk) As President of the League of Minnesota Municipalities, I am taking this opportunity to write you about our Executive Secretary, Clarence Ludwig. Perhaps you are aware that after many years of devoted service to the cause of strong independent municipal govern- ment, Clarence is going to retire in June of this year. . Clarence has not made public his .plans of retirement, and it would not be his nature to do so, I feel, though, that his stewardship of the League should not pass unnoticed. It has been suggested that he should be honored at our annual League banquet at International Falls on Thursday, June 18, by presenting him with resolutiops.from the several municipalities commending him for his services, together with a gift. If you wish to join with me in this testimonial to a devoted public servants would you.please send to me a resolution from your municipality -and a small contribution, if you desire, from individual municipal officials: John B. Friedrich President, City Council City Hall Red Wing, Minnesota. I hope to see each and every one of you at International Falls, June 17 -19. Sincerely yours, John B. Friedrich President P.S. I would-appreciate it if you keep this as quiet as possible for we are trying to-surprise Clarence with this at the•annual banquet. _ J.B.F.
