Mr. Joseph City Clerk Building Dear Sir: ZONING,- CITY OF SAINT PAUL 1315 CITY HALL AND COURT HOUSE SAINT PAUL a,MINNISOTA Okoneski June 22, 1959 This is in the matter, of the application of the Phillip Greenberg Scrap Iron Company for a permit to extend their present scrap iron yard operation on property located on the east side of Mississippi Street at Genessee Street. The legal description is: the south 15 feet of that part of Genessee Street vacated and adjacent to Lot 5, and all of Lots 5, 6, 7, 83 9, 10, 11, Block 21,, Edmund Rice's Trout Brook Addition. The zoning is "Heavy Industrial." The property directly adjoining on the north is presently, and has been for many years, used as a scrap yard. The property under consideration is being used as an expansion of this operation and is presently illegal. The purpose of this application is to legalize the existing operation. The tract is irregularly shaped with a frontage of 361.85 feet along Mississippi Street and'an average depth of 145' resulting in an area of approximately 50,502 square feet or 1.16 acres. The adjacent land uses are: north and adjoining is the applicant's present operation; east and adjoining are railroad properties consisting of track- age; south and adjoining is vacant land which fronts on Mississippi Street; west across Mississippi Street are residences which are being removed for the Mississippi Street Freeway development. Field investigation discloses no basic objections as'the new Freeway when constructed will be approximately 20 feet above the grade of the present scrap iron yard. The Freeway will'separate the scrap iron yard and the development to the west. Field investigation further discloses that the area is presently being used for the storing of scrap iron. It is unfenced and the materials are piled there so that they encroach on the street right - of -way, or sidewalk area. The Board of Zoning reviewed this matter at their meeting of May 8, 1959, and recommend the granting of the permit to extend this operation to include the above described property subje height - g- e raunA s- aecvrdance- with -4he - requests- and requirements-as- es,babl ed- by-the- butl:diml—depar- tment.
