Resolved, That the proper city officers
are hereby authorized to pay certain
employes in the, Department of Parks,
Playgrounds' & Public Buildings for
extra employment as described in the
resolution.

WHEREAS., The Commissioner of Parks, Playgrounds and public
Buildings has reported, in accordance with Section j,
53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emer-
gency during the period from March 16 to 31, 1959,
which rendered necessary the employment of certain
employees of the Department of Parks, Playgrounds
and Public Buildings for more than eight hours,per
day or forty hours per week in doing the following
work:
Supervision, operation, maintenance, care
and protection of public parks and play-
grounds and of their facilities.
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the follow-
ing facts and circumstances:
Seasonal requirements for protection of
public property and pursuit of departmental
activities, such as: Tending the heating
plant for the Greenhouse and Zoo continu-
ously; equipment had to be repaired and serv-
iced to- avoid.delay next day; objectionable
and dangerous accumulations of brush and
wood had to be removed at once; municipal
athletics and sports and various other'
recreation programs and activities demanded
services beyond regular time.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the proper city officers
are hereby authorized to pay the employees who per-
formed such work in accordance with the provisions
of the Council's salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 6446.
