09-1190Council File # ��(,r Green Sheet # 3082716 1 2 3 4 RESOLUTION CITY OF,SAINT PAUL, MIN�SOTA Presented j,/ WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resowces (DNR) has released a Request For Proposals (RFP) for the Lessard-Sams Conservarion Partners Legacy (CPL) grant program; and; WfIEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Department of Parks and Recrearion is eligible to receive up to $400,000 in grant funds through the CPL program, and; VJHEREAS, it is the intenrion of Parks and Recrearion to submit a proposal to restore, enhance, and manage 125 acres of native woodland through non-native woody species removal and reforestation, and; 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 Wf1EREAS, project work will occur within narive woodland habitat identified by the Minnesota Counry Biological Survey as having a high significance of biodiversity, or within unique forest restoration opportunities identified within site-specific management plans, and; WHEREAS, removal of non-native invasive species will increase connectedness of high-quality forests, increase the probability of a self-sustaining forest community, reduce sedimentation of impaired waterbodies, and improve habitat for wildlife, and; WHEREAS, this project will focus on significant land parcels identified within the Mississippi River Critical Area, the Mississippi Narional River and Recreation Area (MNRRA), and the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife Refuge Important Bird Area, and; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that designated Parks and Recreation staff be given permission to seek CPL funding on behalf of the City.
