WHEREAS, the Commissioner of Public Utilities has reported, in accordance
with Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergency
during the period from February 16th to February 28th, 1959, inc.,
which rendered necessary the employment of certain employees of the
Water Department for more than eight hours per day or forty hoprs
per week in doing the following work:
(1) Supervising installation of new 1211 discharge line and tieing into
existing 1211 discharge line at Highland Tower.
(2) Handling meter reading cards received in the mail on Saturdays.
(3) Reading water meters on Saturdays.
AND WHEREAS, this emergency arose by reason of the following facts and
circumstances:
(1) Necessary to cut off supply from Highland tower during low
consumption hours.
(2) In order to have readings ready for billers on Monday.
(3) Meters could be read only on Saturdays.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the proper city officers are hereby
authorized to pay the employees who performed such work in
accordance with the provisions of the Council's Salary Ordinance,
Ordinance No. 6446.
