WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Parks, Playgrounds and Public
Buildings has reported, in accordance wcith Section 53 of
the City Charter, the existence of an emergency during
the period from February 1 to 15, 1959, which rendered
necessary the emiploynunt of certain employees of the
Department of Parks, Playgrounds and Public Buildings
for more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week,
in doing the following work=:
Supervision, operation, maintenance, care and
prIotection of public parks and playgrounds and
of their facilities.
And WHEREAS, This emergency brose by reason of the following
facts and circumstances :.
Seasonal requirements for protection of public
property and pursuit of departmental activities,
such as: Tending the heating plant for the
Greenhouse and Zoo continuously; sanding boule-
vards and parkways which had become slippery on
a weekend; housemovers, operating on Sunday and
the holiday, required the services of a tree
trimmer; equipment had to be repaired to avoid
delay next day; municipal athletics and sports
and various other recreation programs and activ-
ities demanding services beyond regular time,
noteably playgrounds ice rinks and Winter Carnival
events.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLD, That the proper city officers are
hereby authorized to pay the employees who performed such
work in accordance with the provisions of the Council's
salary ordinance, Ordinance No, 6446,
