(May 23, 1959) a YEEREAS, the Commissioner of Public Utilities has reported, in accordance with Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergency during the period from May 1st to May 15th, 1959 inc., which rendered necessary the employment of certain employees of the Water Department for more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the following works (1) Repairing Filtration Plant equipment. (2) Working extra shifts at various stations. (3) Taking emergency calls at Storeyard. (4) Finishing installation of, and repairing water mains, hydrants, and service connections. (5) Driving country crew to and from work locations. (6) Patrolling Water Dept. forests around various lakes. AND YEAS, this emergency arose by reason of the following facts and . circumstances: (1) Necessary to do work during low consumption hours. (2) Illness of employees on regular shifts. (3) Nights and Sundays. (4) In order to speed repairs and installations. (5) On account of scattered work locations. (6) Necessary to guard against forest fires and grass fires. THEREFORE., BE IT RESOLVED, that the proper city officers are hereby authorised to pay the employees who performed such work in accordance with the provisions of the Council's Salary Ordinance, Ordinance No. 6446.
