WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Public Works has reported in accordance with,
Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergency during
the period from July 16 to July 31, 1959, which rendered necessary the
employment of certain employees of the Department of Public Works for
more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the
following work: ,
Emergency street, building, sewer & bridge repair
Dispatching men for emergency repair work
Dispatching motor vehicles for all emergency repair work
Operating equipment on emergexy repair work
Emergency calls for sewer maintenance
Removing debris from city streets
Tending fire at Asphalt Plant on Sundays & holidays
Taking care of complaints at city yards
Drawing plans and specifications for grading and paving jobs
Mimeographing grade profiles and revising house numbers
Serving municipal equipment
Making up sidewalk assessments
Inspecting city improvement jobs
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and
circumstances:
Necessity of answering.all "emergency repair calls, keeping city streets
free from debris, keeping fires at Asphalt Plant continuously, taking
complaints at City Yars, completing plans and specifications for grading
and paving jobs, need for grade profiles andhouse numbers, completing
sidewalk assessments, keeping city equipment in good running condition,
and inspecting work done by contractors on street and sidewalk work.'
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the proper city officers are hereby authorized
to pay the employees who performed such work in accordance with the
provisions of the Council's salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 6446.
