Examples of work performed: To review the less complex plans and specifications to determine conformance with the codes. To make routine inspections of buildings under construction and the installation of equipment and facilities. To prepare detailed drawings and renderings of public buildings and facilities. To assist in preparing cost estimates and specifications. To make surveys for the Department of Parks, Playgrounds and Public Buildings. To make, basic computations to determine safe loads. and the strength of various parts of buildings. To make inspections of buildings to determine the legality of proposed architectural and structural changes. To make investigations and reports on explosions, fires, floods, etc. , which may occur in the City. Examples of work performed: To supervise and assist in the preparation of plans, designs, speci- fications and estimates for buildings and structures. To develop scale drawings including floor plans, decorations, sections and scale details for buildings and structures. To investigate and report on the cost and advisability of proposed buildings and structures. To prepare structural cost data. Minimum qualifications: . College graduation in civil engineering and two years' professional structural engineering experience. (No substitution for education. ) -3- Title of class: ASSISTANT TRAFFIC TECHNICIAN Duties and responsibilities: // I� Under supervision, to perform routine engineering work connected with traffic operations, surveyors, or plans; and to perform related work as assigned. Examples of work performed: To investigate and report findings on traffic complaints and suggestions. To inspect and report upon the materials and methods of construction used on traffic signal contracts, To plan, organize, and conduct traffic surveys. To prepare charts, summaries, and tables showing survey results. To perform drafting, computations or assembly work on plans, charts and diagrams. To supervise the work of sign and marking installation. To direct and coordinate the work of parking meter operations. Minimum qualifications: High school graduation and six years' experience in traffic engineering ~ work, at least three years of which shall have been as a junior traffic technician or senior engineering draftsman. -4- Title of class: CHIEF PUBLIC BUILDINGS TECHNICIAN Duties and responsibilities: ri 7� Under direction, to perform difficult professional engineering or architectural work in the investigation, development, design, construction, inspection, etc. , of public and private buildings and facilities; to check for conformance to the City codes; and to ,perform related work as assigned. Examples of work performed: To supervise a specialized technical section of the Bureau of Public Buildings. To make original designs of public buildings and related equipment and facilities. To prepare cost data and complete cost estimates. To write specifications for public buildings. To inform private architects, engineers, and the public of the re- quirements of the codes. To review preliminary plans of private architects and engineers in order to insure final compliance with code requirements. To supervise the inspection of buildings under construction and the installation of equipment and facilities. To supervise the investigations and reports on explosions, fires, floods, etc. , which occur in the City. Minimum qualifications: Must be a registered professional engineer or architect in the State of Minnesota. -5- Title of class; ENGINEERING AIDE Duties and responsibilities: Under supervision, to perform the simple routine tasks involved in surveying, traffic surveys, inspection, or engineering office ,.work; and to perform related work as assigned. To carry instruments: + To place stakes, markers and monuments as directed. To clear brush in the line of survey. .�e To assist inspectors on simple routine projects or at concrete plants. To conduct routine traffic surveys. To place and maintain automatic traffic counting devices. In the office- - To give routine information to the public at the counter regarding assessments, house numbers, etc. To issue house numbers. To keep records and indexes. Examples of work performed: Following, principally, plans and methods established or prescribed by superiors, to develop working detail, to carry out plans and programs, and to make necessary measurements and computations. To assist in the design of plumbing, heating, ventilating, air con- ditioning and other mechanical equipment. To assist in writing specifications for mechanical equipment. To act as inspector on the installation of the less complex mechanical equipment. To check, for compliance with code requirements, plans and designs submitted for permits for installation of mechanical equipment. To make field inspections of existing structures regarding safety of mechanical equipment. Minimum qualifications: College graduation in mechanical engineering. Examples of work performed: To place and supervise placement of automatic traffic counting devices. To maintain and supervise maintenance of traffic survey -and other records. To prepare accident diagrams. To gather data and conduct field surveys such as those for volume, speed, origin and destination, parking and control device ob- servance or effectiveness. To prepare plans, charts, 'summaries, or tables as assigned. To give information to the public concerning traffic engineering records. To assist in the preparation of signal plans and inspection of signal installations. To make ink tracings. Minimum qualiiicaLtions: High school graduation }with major courses in mathematics, and two years' experience as a senior traffic engineering aide or the equivalent. 1 _10- Title of class: SENIOR LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT Duties and responsibilities: ��'J Under direction, to perform responsible professional work of considerable difficulty and importance in the design, con- struction, inspection and maintenance of landscaping; and to perform related work as assigned. Examples of work performed: To have charge of the design of all landscaping of parks and re- creational areas. To supervise the preparation of plans, designs, specifications and estimates for landscape improvements and projects. To do research work in connection with proposed landscape projects. To coordinate the landscaping work with the recreational area and building plans. To make studies in connection with proposing improvements in landscaping. Minimum qualifications: College graduation in Jandscape architecture and six years' pro - fessional'lindscapi*experience, at least two years of which shall have been as -an assistant landscape architect. To review the more complex plans and specifications to determine conformance with the code. To inspect complex buildings under construction and the installation of equipment and facilities. - To inform private architects, engineers, and the public of the re- quirements of the codes. To make the more difficult surveys for the Department of Parks, Playgrounds and Public Buildings. To prepare cost estimates for public buildings.
