Resolved, That the proper city officers
are hereby authorized to pay certain
employes in the Department of Parks,
Playgrounds and Public Buildings for
extra employment as described in the
Resolution.

WHEREAS, The Commissioner of parks, playgrounds and public
Buildings has reported, in accordance with Section
53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergency
during the period from April 1 to 1,5, 1959, which
rendered necessary the employment of certain employees
of the Department of Parks, Playgrounds and Public
Buildings for more than eight hours per day or forty
hours per week in doing the following work;
Supervision, operation, maintenance, care
and protection of public parks and play-
grounds and of their facilities.
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the follow-
ing facts and circumstances;
Seasonal requirements for protection of
public property and pursuit of departmental
activities, such as; Tending the heating
plant for the Greenhouse and Zoo continu-
ously; equipment had to be repaired and
serviced to avoid delay next day; wind
damaged boulevard trees and caused hazardous
situations; housemover operating on Saturday
required services of a tree trimmer; heavy
weekend patronage at municipal golf courses
and services of plumbers required on emergency
basis at public Works asphalt plant.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the proper city officers
are hereby authorized to pay the employees who per-
formed such work in accordance with the provisions
of the Council) s salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 9 46.
