I was just starting my vacaYion June 14th, 2008 when my tenant Ida Burton called me and
told me there was a problem with XceI Energy on my property. They had tacked on a
huge bill from 1306 Rice St. and possibly other properties to my property's gas and
electric bill at 2000 $ordner Pl. Because of privacy laws, Xcel would not tell me
anythiug. I got back home July Z 2008 and immediately got Ida Burton to allow me to
talk to Xcei.
I told Xcel Energy that I would pay off any money owed by Ida Burton on my
property since she moved in Feb. 25`, 2008. 'That was the date Ida told me to put the
gas and electric in her name.
Xcel Energy refused to allow me to pay off any money owed by Ida at 2000 Bordner Pl.
and put the properiy back in my name.
They kept telling me that Ida Burton had to pay $2182 now and about $750 per month
until all debt was paid. They said my other choice was to get her out of the property and
then I could put the electric and gas back in my namei
I gave Ida Burton 30 days notice to vacate the property. She was to have been out by
August 31 st, 2008. Unfortunately I was unable to get her out quick enough. The police
escorted her out on Iuly 23` 2DET8 I was told.
Ida Burton claimed that Xcel Energy was charging her foz 13a6 Itice St. even though she
wasn't there. This was at least pariially true because Ida Burton moved imo my property
on Feb 25', 2d68. She should have totaily been out of 1306 Rice St. by the end of Peb.
Xcel Energy told me they were still charging Ida Hurton through April 15`, 2Q08 at 1306
Rice St. Xcel should have at least given us time to try and straighten out the mess before
disconnecting the gas and electric.
July 23', 2008, without notifying me, tha gas and electric were turned off at 2000
Bordner Pi. and the house condemmed! I was never contacted in all this time in writing
or by phone until July 24`, 2008. I believe Ida was so mad at Xcel that someone she
knew tampered with the electric meter. That just added to my problems that I haue no
control over.
Final Note: Linda Brodkorb 651-487-3708, the landlord at 1306 Rice St., tald me that
Ida Burton was caught up on all her ren2 paysnent and bills except for her fmal rent
payment which she was going to take out of her deposit. When I caIled to put Ida Burton
on Xcel Energy's gas and elactric, I asked them if Ida was a11 caught up with past bills. (I
had understood that you cauld not pnt a renter on Xcel's gas and electric on a new
property if they owed large past bills.} The woman at Xcel told me that Ida was fine!
(Later, Xcel denied that and told me that they coutd not give out any information on a
tenant!! t}
