1 WAEREAS, the Department of Public Works would like to advertise for bids for the construction of a new
2 traffic signal system at the intersection of Shepazd Road & SB T.H. 35E Ramp and the revision of the
3 existing traffic signal system at the intersecrion of Minnehaha/Mendota/Seventh, and

5 WHEREAS, the engineer's estimate for this work is $368,169; all costs are eligible for MSA funding, and

7 WHEREAS, there aze MSA balances available in the 2006 and 2007 Signal Installation Program and the
8 Snelling @ Concordia/St. Anthony Traffic Signal projects that could be used to finance these projects, and
9
10 WHEREAS, to close out prior yeaz signal install projects and record all available signal install financing in
11 one activity, any unspent CIB & MSA from 2006 and 2007 Signal Installation Program and the Snelling @
12 Concordia/St. Anthony Traffic signal projects will be moved forwazd to the 2008 Signal Installaaon
13 Program, so

15 THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Saint Paul, upon recommendation of the
16 Mayor and advice of the Long Range Capital Improvement Budget Committee, that $531,432.43 is
17 available for appropriation in the 2008 Capital Improvement Budget, as heretofore adopted and amended
18 by this Council, be hereby further amended in the Improvement Budgets, in the following particulars:

Traffic Signal installation at Shepard and S.B. TH 35E would allevia[e traffic congestion caused by left turns to S.B. 35E. The traffic
signal ievision at Minnehaha(Mendotal7th will increase safery for motoris[s and pedestrians at this non standazd, six legged
intersection by instaliing more visible indicakons and proven pedestrian technology.
Disadvantages If Approved:
None.
Disadvantages if Not Approved:
Bo[h of the traffic signal projects proposed for constructior�/revision in 2008 aze eligible for MSA funding. If the MSA funding
transfers proposed in the resolution aze not approved, other locai financing sources will be needed to fund the projects.
