W ZM,, the Commissioner of Public Utilities has reported, in accordance
with Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergency
during the period from October 16th to October 31st 1959 inc.,
which rendered necessary the employment,of certain employees of the
Water Department, for more than eight hours per day or forty hours
per Week in doing the following work:
1 Watching equipment and grounds at Filtration Plant.
2 Repairing telenetering equipment at Highland Park & West Side Stations.
3 Working extra shifts at various stations.
4 Taking emergency calls at Storeyard.
5 Finishing installation of and repairing water mains and
service connections.
M 6) Driving country crew to and from work.
Repairing leaks in Mississippi River conduit.
AND WHEREAS, this emergency arose by reason of the following facts and
circumstances:
1 Extra hours on Halowe'en.
2, &_(7) In order to speed repairs.
3 _Illness of employees on regular shifts.
4 Nights and Sundays.
5 In order to speed installations and repairs.
6 On account of scattered work locations.
THSRffiPORE,, BE IT RESOLVED, that the proper city officers are hereby
authorized to pay the employees who performed such work in accordance
with the provisions of the Council's Salary Ordinance, Ordinance
No. 6W.
