1 WHEREAS IN 1873 Horace W.S. Cleveland addressed the Saint Paul City Council lamenting that homes
2 had been built on the biuff side of Smmnit Avenue obscuring the view of the Mississippi River Valley and
3 vowed that his priority would be to set-aside at least one place along the hilltop for public view; and
4
5 WI the former site of the Cazpenter Hotel at Summit Avenue and Ramsey Street was acquired by
6 the Saint Paul Pazks Commission in 1895; and
7
8 WHEREAS, the site remained open space for the next 100 years without a designated name; and
9
10 WHEREAS, the relocarion of the New York Life Eagle to a permanent installation on the site necessitated
11 that the space be improved consistent with the majesty of the noteworthy bronze sculpture; and
12
13 WHEREAS, the Lookout Park Partnership, in cooperation with the City, Parks and Public Warks
14 Departments, and with the financial assistance of more than 350 individuals and businesses, has
15 transformed the site into a welcoming public space; and
16
17 WHEREA5, the Department of Parks and Recreation currently lists the official name of this park as
18 Sununit I,00kout Park, making this a memorialization of the name;
19
20 NOW THEREFORE LET TT BE RESOLVED that the site be named and lrnown in the future as Suininit
21 Lookout Park.
