Presented
WHEREAS, the Acti iving Ram County Initiative has undertaken a"1,000 Benches" program to facilitate active
living in Ramsey County, and a co of the project is the installation of "bench corridors", which will support walking as
a form of uansportation; and
WHEREAS, Saint Paul Parks and Recreation submitted an application for bench corridors at Cherokee Pazk and along
Mississippi River Boulevard and it was approved by Saint Paul Ramsey County Public Health;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Park project consists of six benches, to be installed along the route along the west bluff of
the Mississippi River, all locations on public park land owned by Saint Pau] Parks and Recreation; and
WHEREAS, the Mississippi River Boulevard project consists of 41 benches (replacing the old benches on the existing
bench pads) along a route along the west bluff of the Mississippi River, all locations on public park land owned by Saint Paul
Parks and Recreation; and
WHEREAS, the purchase of the benches and plaques will be funded by Saint Paul- Ramsey County Public Health, who
will donate the benches and plaques to the City; and
WHEREAS, the required match by the City of Saint Paul will consist of the existing bench pads, along with the clean-
up of the existing bench pads and the installation of the new benches and plaques; and
WHEREAS, the installarion of the benches serves a public purpose in promoting exercise and alternarive transportation
methods; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City Council accepts the donation of the benches and plaques and thanks Saint Paul - Ramsey
County Public Health for their generosiry.

Saint Paul has the oppor[unity to receive a donation of six (6) park benches to install at Cherokee Park, and replace 41 wom out park
benches along Mississippi River Boulevazd.
Advantages If Approved:
Saint Paul will have 6 more park benches at Cherokee Park and 41 benches along Mississippi River Blvd will be upgraded. The
installation of the bencfies seroes a public purpose in promoting exercise and aitemative transportation methods.

There are no disadvanta.ges.
Disadvantages If Not Approved:
Saint Paul Pazks and Recreation will use more resouxces to build six concrete slab/wood slat pazk benches instead of installing the
"Patttways to Heatth" benches at Cherokee Park. In addition, they will be unable to upgrade the wom out benches along Mississippi
River Blvd.
