Presented by
Whereas, the Palace Theatre, dubbed, "Saint Paul's own Theatre Beautiful," celebrated it's b and opening
in 1916 neaz the comer of 7 Place and St. Peter Street; and
4 Whereas, the Palace Theatre has been vacant for more than 25 years; and
6 Whereas, the Palace Theatre is a key location for the downtown cultural and entertainment district; and

8 Whereas, the Palace Theatre is an historic asset with tremendous potential to contribute to the livability of
9 our city and the cultural vitality of our downtown; and

11 Whereas, the City of Chicago has been a national leader in redevelopment of their historic theaters; and
12
13 Whereas, a visit to Chicago for the purpose of researching and touring three historic theaters which were
14 recently renovated for reuse as entertainment facilities, will help the City's efforts and serve a public
15 purpose to find an appropriate redevelopment of the Palace Theatre; and
16
17 Whereas, Historic Saint Paul, a 501 (C)(3), has cominitted to reimburse the City for airfare, hotel and
18 transportation costs required as part of a visit;
19
20 NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council supports the July 11-12,
21 2008, visit to Chicago and authorizes Mayor Chris Coleman and Joe Spencer, Mayor's Policy Associate, to
22 expend City funds for the purpose of airfare, hotel and transportation costs required as part of the visit; and
23
24 BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that a subsequent Resolution will be presented to the City Council
25 authorizing the acceptance of donations from Historic Saint Paul and appropriating them for expenses
26 required as part of the visit.
