WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Public Works has reported, in accordance with
f Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergency during
the period from December 1 to 15, 1960, which rendered necessary the
employment of certain employees of the Department of Public Works for
more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the
following work:
Emergency street, building, sewer & bridge repair
Dispatching men for emergency repair work
Dispatching motor vehicles for all emergency work
Operating equipment on emergency repair work
Emergency calls for sewer maintenance
Removing debris and ice from city streets
Tending fires at Asphalt Plant on Sundays & holidays
Taking care of complaints at city yards
Drawing plans for grading & paving jobs
Mimeographing, grade profiles, plans, etc.
Servicing municipal equipment
Making up sidewalk assessments
Inspecting city improvement jobs

cers are hereby authorized to pay
certain employes in the Department
of'Public Works for extra employment
as described in the resolution.

And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the foMowing facts and cir-
cumstances:
Necesssity of answering all emergency calls, keeping city streets free
from ice and 'debris, keeping fires at Asphalt Plant continuously, taking
complaints at city yards, completing grading & paving plans, completing
sidewalk assessments, keeping city equipment in good running condition
and inspecting work done by contractors on city streets, sewers and
sidewalks.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the proper

WHEIREAS, in the Blotter of Comptroller's Contract L -6183 for
the construction of the DUKE STREET-SEWER OUTLET EXTENSIOIT,
Peter Lametti Construction Company, contractor, the specified
date of completion is June 1, 1960, and •
WHEREAS, the contractor has prosecuted the work diligently, but
due to the high water level of the river, it was not possible
to complete the contract by said date of completion, therefore
be it
RESOLVED, that the proper city officers be and they are hereby
authorized and directed to execute an amendment to said con-
tract extending the time of•completion to JUNE 271 1960, pro-
vided, however, that this Resolution shall have no force or
effect unless the Sureties on the Contractor's Bond consent
thereto in writing and file such consent with the City Comptroller,
and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of St. Paul hereby waives all
claim for liquidated damages and that no engineering and inspection
costs on this Project will be charged by the City on account of
