Silverman, Consulting Architect for the St. Paul Public Schools, in which he answers some questions about the new Johnson High School site which were raised by property owners at the hearing on the ratification of assessments for gra- ding and sewer held on May 11, 1960. For your convenience I have attached a map of the site showing lands now owned by the City as shaded in yellow and lands now under condemnation shaded in blue. MINNESOTA OFFICE OF CONSULTING ARCHITECT May 25, 1960 Mr. Eltor Dehn, Valuation Engineer Bureau of Valuations 286 City Hall Dear Mr. Dehn: In response to your letter of May 13, 1960 to Mr. John Gran, the questions stated are answered as follows: 1. The new Johnson Senior High School will be located on the site now being acquired in the area west of Arcade and Walsh Streets. (Walsh Site) 2. Your tentative schedule for aquisition and possession of this site by the City on November 1, 1960 seems proper. Tentative plans are for construction of building to start early in 1961 and for completion by December, 1962. 3. Preliminary plans now indicate that the building will be located at the east end of this site. This location is subject to change as planning studies progress. 4. The Board of Education is not contemplating expansion of this site. Although more acreage would be desirable for this size school, there are no funds available for site expansion at this time nor in the foreseeable future. Although this site presents a bit of difficulty due to the close proximity of residential and commercial developments on three alley boundaries, the poor location, availability, acreage, and /or soil conditions of other possible sites made the Walsh Site the only logical selection for this school. We appreciate your attention to our school site problems, and Mr. Gran or I will be present at the hearing on June 2nd at 10 a.m. Sincerely, r i Gi bert S.
