WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Public Works has reported, in accordance with
Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergency during
the period from October 1 to 15, 1960, which rendered necessary the
employment of certain employees of the Department of Public Works for
more than eight hours per day forty hours per week in doing the fol-
lowing work:
Emergency street, building, sewer & bridge repairs
Dispatching men for emergency repair work
Dispatching motor vehicles for all emergency work
Operating equipment on emergency repair work
Emergency calls for sewer maintenance
Removing debris from city streets
Tending fires at Asphalt Plant on Sundays & holidays
Taking complaints at city yards
Drawing plans & specifications for grading & paving jobs
Mimeographing grade profiles etc.
Servicing municipal equipment
Making up sidewalk assessments
Inspecting city improvement jobs
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and
circumstances:
Necessity of answering all emergency repair calls, keeping city
Streets free from debris, keeping fires at Asphalt Plant continously,
taking complaints at city yards, completing plans for grading & paving
jobs, need for grade profiles, completing sidewalk assessments,
keeping city equipment in good running condition and inspecting work
done by contractors on city streets and sidewalks.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the proper city officers are hereby authorized
to pay the employees who performed such work in accordance with the
provisions of the Council's salary ordinance, Ordinance No. 6446,
