WHEREAS, the Board of Education of the City of Saint Paul
on May 3, 1960 " adopted the following resolution:

"Resolved, that the Board of Education of the
City of Saint Paul hereby directs that a vote be
taken on the question of conversion of Special
District 2 of the City of Saint Paul, State of
Minnesota, to an independent district; said vote
shall.be t8ken at a special election to be held
on the 28th day of June 1960; and requests the
Council of the City of Saint Paul to concur in its
action and to proceed as required by law to call
such special election, to providelfor the proper
legal notice of the same and to further provide for
the conducting of such election, all in accordance
with the provisions of law applicable to such
special election; be it
"Further Resolved, that the Board hereby
requests that the question to be included on the
ballot at such special election and in the notice
of said election be stated as follows:
'Shall Special School District No. 2,
State of Minnesota, of the City of
Saint Paul, be converted to and become
an independent school district as
provided in Chapter 71, Article III,
Sec. 10, Laws 1959, Extra Session, with
limited taxing and bonding powers ?'"

RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the City of
Saint Paul hereby directs that a vote be taken on the question

hereby authorized and directed to prepare the necessary printing,
stationery and election supplies, and to engage the necessary
labor and skill and purchase necessary tools and materials to
equip said polling places, the cost thereof, together with all
expenses of said election, including compensation of judges, to
be paid out of the Election Expense Account of the General Fund,
RESOLVED FURTHER, that the City Clerk is hereby author-
ized and directed to give such notice and do whatever else is
necessary for the submission of said proposed question at said
special election in the manner prescribed by law.

Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council:
Herewith I am transmitting to you -a copy of a resolution
adopted unanimously by the members of the Board of Education
at their regular meeting on Tuesday, May 3, 1960, requesting
the City Council to call a special election on June 28, 1960
on the question of whether the St. Paul Special School Dis-
trict #2 shall become an Independent School District.
The schedule of timing for this election and the events sub -
sequent to the election, if the vote should be favorable, as
given to us by the Corporation Counsel Office and the City
Elections Bureau is such that your early consideration of
this matter is solicited.
Should you wish to have someone representing the Board of
Education appear before you at the time this matter is con-
sidered, we shall be glad to do so.
