A public hearing having been had upon the above improvement upon due notice, and the Council
having he all persons, objections and recommendations relative thereto, and having fully considered
the same; therefore, be, it
RESOLVED, By the Council of the City of St. Paul that the precise nature, extent and kind of im-
provement to be made by the said City is .
reconstruct the sidewalk on
the east side,of Hamlin Ave. from Hartford Ave. to Highland Parkway, except where
good and sufficient sidewalks now exist -

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Commissioner of Public Works be and is hereby instructed and
directed to prepare plans and specifications for said improvement, and submit same to the Council for
approval; that upon said approval, the proper city officials are hereby authorized and directed to pro-
ceed with, the making of said improvement in accordance therewith.

Preliminary Order #195870
Gentlemen:
I will be unable to attend the meeting on
May 31st regarding a new sidewalk on Hamline Avenue
between Hartford and Highland Parkway, but I would like
to express my opinion.
This area has been a residential area for
many years and inasmuch as there have been no sidewalks
up to now it seems to me that there is no great need
for any now as evidently the residents are satisfied
with the present green grass appearance. I just had
my front yard sodded and do not want part of it destroyed.
No doubt you are well aware of the price of sodding.
The money that would be spent on this
sidewalk could very nicely be used to fix up the end of
the alley bordering on Eleanor Ave. between Hamline and
Albert. It is all broken up as well as the adjoining
street (Eleanor) adjacent to the alley. The same
situation applies to Eleanor Ave. at the corner of Albert.
It broke up this spring but of course has since been
pulverized fray traffic so it is more or less only a dirt
street now.
I hope our tax money will be used for some-
thing more desirable and beneficial than a new sidewalk
at the above mentioned location.
