1 RESOLVED, that Council Resolution No. 92-1629, adopted December 15, 1992, and Council Resolution
2 No. 97-1411, adopted December 8, 1997, are hereby amended to read as follows:
4 RESOLVED, that the Council does hereby reconfirm the authority of the Office of the City Attomey,
5 Labor Relations and *'�����FRisk Management to negotiate and settle all suits, �rrievances and
6 claims in a doilar amount not to exceed $7,500.00 without the necessity of a Council resolution and,
7
8 BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the City Attorney, the Huxnan Resources Director and Risk
9 Management will provide quarterly reports in writing to the City Council for those suits, grievances and
10 claims settled under $7,500.00.

Iabor Reiations presently has the ability to settle grievances and claims based on coilective bargaining agreements but its settlement
options aze limited. The ability to settle claims with [he payment of up to $7,500 will allow Labor Relafions more flexibility in
resolving conhact disputes.

Attached is a budget resolution giving Labor Relations the authority to settle grievances
under $7,500. Currently these are paid for out of departments' salary budgets in the form
of pay for tune off. If approved, the new policy would allow for departments to pay for
these grievances out of the "SettlemenY' budget code, making the process more
transparent.
