WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Parks and Recreation and
Public Buildings has reported, in accordance with
Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of
an emergency during the period from May 1 to 15,
1960, which rendered necessary the employment of
certain employees of the Department of Parks and
Recreation and Public Buildings for more than eight
hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the
following work;
Supervision, operation, maintenance, care
and protection of public parks and play-
grounds and of their facilities.
And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the
following facts and circumstances;

Resolved, That the proper city offi-
cers are hereby authorized to pay
certain employes in the Department
of Parks & Recreation & Public Build=
ings for extra employment as, described

Seasonal requirements for protection of
public property and pursuit of departmental
activities, such as; Heating plant for the
Conservatory and Zoo tended around the clock;
civic events and municipal sports and play-
ground programs momentarily required in-
creased time and effort of an unforeseen
nature; heavy week -end patronage at municipal
golf courses, Zoo and Conservatory; storm -
damaged trees required immediate attention;
and Saturday time to catch up on delayed
spring cleanup work in City parks.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the proper city officers
are hereby authorized to pay the employees who per-
formed such work in accordance with the provisions
of the Council) s salary ordinance, Ordinance No, 6416,
