08-565Council File # 6g ' �1� � GreenSheet# 30542� I 2 � 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 2� 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 Presented by RESOLUTION CITY OF SAtNT PAUL, MINNESOTA �� WHEREAS, Science Bowl is a comprehensive science competition that inspires students to explore every facet of the modem world of science and technology; and WHEREAS, the St. Paul Central Science Bowl team began practicing weekly on Sunday evenings in July of 2007 for the regional competition, which was held on January 25, 2008; and WHEREAS, the [eam was undefeated throughout the regional competition, winning first place among more than 30 teams. They continued to prepare for the Nationa] Science Bowl in Washing[on DC, May ]-6. There, they won lst place in their division with a record of 6-1, advancing to double elimination and placing them among the [op 16 teams in the nation; and WHEREAS, the National Science Bowl team consists of captain Danie Monahan (senior), Elwood McCreary (senior), Jonathan Schellenberg (junior), lennifer Wei Qunior) and Martin Camacho. They were coached by Randy Knoche and accompanied on their trip by Joanne Thibault; and WHEREAS, the entire Central Science Bowl team also included seniors Sage Hellerstedt, Omax Usman, Ian Hedberg, and Meryl Spencer, juniors Simon C,ebrehiwet, Wendy Lang, and Zach Kagan; and sophomores Christine Lee and Sam Ihlenfeldt; and WHEREAS, these students have gained an understanding of material far beyond the scope ofthe average high school science student. They have studied physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, earth science, and mathematics and have shown dedication in their preparation and excellant teamwork.
