i Whereas, public works services provided in our community are an integral part of our citizens' everyday
2 lives: and
4 Whereas, the support of an understanding and informed citizenry is vital to the e�cient operation of public
5 works systems and programs such as water, sewers, stteets and highways, public �buildings, and solid waste
6 collection; and

8 Whereas, the health, safety and comfort of this community greatly depends on these facilities and services;
9 and

11 Whereas, the quality and effectiveness of these facilities, as well as their planning, design, and
12 construction, is vitally dependent upon the efforts and skill of public works officials; and

Whereas, the efficiency of the qualified and dedicated personnel who staff public works deparhnents is
materially influenced by the people's attitude and understanding of the important woxk they perform,
Now, therefore, I, Mayor Chris Coleman, Mayor of the City of Saint Paul, do hereby proclaim the week of
May 18 as
"National Public Works Week"
In the City of Saint Paul, and I call upon a11 citizens and civic organizations to acquaint themselves with
the issues involved in providing our public works and to recognize the contributions which public works
officials make every day to our health, safety, comfort and quality of life.
