FILE WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Public Works has reported, in accordance with Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergency during the period from April 16 to April 30, 1960 which rendered necessary the employment of certain employees of the Department of Public Works for more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the following work: Emergency street, building, sewer & Bridge repair Dispatching men for emergency repair work Dispatching motor vehicles for all emergency work Operating equipment on emergency repair work Emergency calls for sewer maintenance Removing debris from city streets Tending fire at Asphalt Plant on Sundays & holidays Council File No. 196963 —By Adrian P. Winkel — Resolved, That the proper City offi- cers are hereby authorized to pay cer- tain employes in the Department of Public Works for extra employment as described in the resolution. Adopted by the Council May 3, 1960. Approved May 3, 1960. (May 7, 1960) Taking care of complaints at city yards Drawing plans & specifications for grading & paving jobs Mimeographing grade profiles & revising house numbers Servicing municipal equipment Making up sidewalk assessments Inspecting city improvement jobs And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and circum- stances: Necessity of answering all emergency repair calls, keeping city streets from debris, keeping fires at Asphalt Plant continuously, taking com- plaints at City Yards, completing plans & specifications for grading & paving jobs, need for grade Profiles and house numbers, completing side- walk assessments, keeping city equipment in good running condition, and inspecting work done by contractors on street & sidewalk work.
