WHEREAS, Minnesota Statutes,Section 641.12 provides,
in effect, for a collection by the Sheriff of the amount due the
County for the board of prisoners committed by virtue of any
city or village ordinance; and
WHEREAS, the Sheriff of Ramsey County boards, in the
Ramsey County Jail, prisoners of the City of Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, Minnesota Statutes, Section 642.06 provides,
in effect, that any city of the first class containing a city hall
on land contiguous to the County Court House and Jail grounds may
enter into contract with the County for furnishing to the City,
County Jail facilities for the care of persons usually confined
in the City Jail,
Now, Therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the County will incarcerate and maintain
prisoners, without charge therefor, for the City of Saint Paul
and its Police Department, in the County Jail, under conditions
prescribed by law and in accordance with the supervision of the
County Sheriff; that the City accepts the conditions in the
Resolution of the Board of County Commissioners dated August 11,
1959, bearing County Board File No. 1757, Resolution No. 9 -5204,
and that it ratifies the terms of the agreement attached thereto,
which was signed by the County Auditor, Eugene Monick, on the 10th
day of August, 1959; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, That the City Clerk is hereby authorized
and directed to certify that said agreement was approved by the
Common Council of the City of Saint Paul at a meeting held on the
5th day of February, 1960; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, That the form of such agreement, above
' referred to, as drawn by the County Attorney, and which became
effective on July 1, 1959, to continue for a period of five years
thereafter, is hereby specifically approved.

Forwarded herewith are an original and three copies of a contract
for the care of prisoners in the Ramsey County Jail. The contract provides,
in effect, that the County will incarcerate and maintain prisoners without
charge for the City and its police department. The agreement becomes
effective July 1, 1959, and continues for a period of five years, and the
County agrees that it will waive any charges which may have accrued as a
result of the operation of any statutes or law relating to the incarcera-
tion of prisoners prior to July 1, 1959• The agreement is entered into
pursuant to Minnesota Statutes 1957, Section 642.06.
The agreement was approved by the Board of County Commissioners-
on August 10, 1959• Upon approval, return the original and two copies,
retaining such of the other copies as are needed for your files.
