FILE WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Parks and Recreation and Public Buildings has reported, in accordance with Section 53 of the City Charter, the existence of an emergency during the period from November 16 to 30, 1960, which rendered necessary the employ- ment of certain employees of the Department of Parks and Recreation and public Buildings for more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week in doing the following work; Supervision, operation, maintenance, care and protection of public parks and playgrounds and of their facilities. And WHEREAS, This emergency arose by reason of the following facts and circumstances= Seasonal requirements for protection of public property and pursuit of de- partmental activities, such as; Civic events and municipal sports and play- ground programs required increased time and effort of an unforeseen but temporary nature; heating plant for the Greenhouse and Zoo must be tended around the clock; breakdown of equip- ment required immediate repair and snow and ice on parkways and boulevards necessitated early attention. Loss — Resolved, That the proper city officers are hereby authorized to pay certain employes in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Public Buildings for extra employment as described in the resolution. Adopted by the Council December 2, 1960. Approved December 2, 1960. (December 10, 1960) THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the proper city officers are hereby authorized to pay the employees who per- formed such work in accordance with the provisions of the Council's salary ordinance, Ordinance No, 6446.
