1 Whereas, light rail transit along the Central Corridor is one of the most significant economic development
2 initiatives for Saint Paul, the metropolitan region and the State of Minnesota in recent history; and
4 Whereas, tremendous strides were made to reach common ground among Saint Paul residents, community
5 advocates, City, County and State government; and
6
7 Whereas, Governor Pawlenty included the Central Corridor in his bonding proposal for $70 million while
8 requesting local units of government to come together to cut costs; and
9
10 Whereas, local government entities have acted swiftly to compose a project budget which met the
11 requirements that Govemor Pawlenty established; and

Whereas, the Minnesota House and Senate passed a bonding bill which included $70 million for the
Central Corridor, essential to secure $455 million in funds from the Federal Transit Administration; and
Whereas, Governor Pawlenty line-item vetoed funding essential to the creation of the Central Conidor
light rail project in the bonding bill;
Therefore, be it resolved that the Council does hereby call on the Governor and the Minnesota Legislature
to not adjourn from the 20081egislative session without an appropriation of at least $70 million for the
Central Corridor.
