Whereas, the City of Saint Paul and the Department of Public Works are proud of its employees, and encourages further training
and education opportunities for them. The Public Works Deparhnent would like to host an all day training event on Tuesday,
Apri129 2008 at the Holiday Inn, St. Paul East, and;
Whereas, there will be mulriple speakers for this event, costs for speakers not to exceed $15,152. These speakers will cover
several work related issues, and topics, which employees can incorporate into their daily work duties, and;
Whereas, the facility Holiday Inn, St. Paul East will provide accommodations for this event under the "McKnight Meeting
Package", which includes meeting rooms, screen with projector table, podium, microphone, and various tables to use.
Refreshments for this event will be provided. Rental of the facility and accommodations will not exceed $11,801, and;
Now, therefore, be it resolved, that the proper City officials are hereby authorized to pay expenses incurred to host this event.
Total cost of this haining event not to exceed $26,953, which will be disbursed from funding code 255-12321-0289.

The City of Saint Paul and the Department of Public Works are proud of its employees, and encourages further training and
educational opportun3ties for them. The Department of Public Works would like to host an all day training event for its employees on
Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the Holiday Inn, St. Paul East. This event would have mulriple speakers covering several work rela[ed
issues, and topics. Conference rooms and refreshments will be provided at this event.
Advantages If Approved:
The Department of Public Works employees will gain further Imowledge from speakers at this event, which they can incorporate into
their daily work duties. The average cost per employee for this haining day event is $63. Expenses incurred to host this event will be
authorized to be paid.

Disadvantages If Not Approved:
This training event would not occur without authorization.

The attached resolution would allow the Public Works department to contract with
several speakers (maximum cost: $15,152) and to rent a facility (mas cost: $11,801) for
an all day training event. This event would be paid from within the 2008 budget from
fund 255 (PW Admin). The topic of this training event is diversity.
This proposal appeazs reasonable and I recommend signing.
