Neis, Department of Safety and Inspection (DSn - Fire Prevenrion; and Mai Vang, City Council Offices Appeal of Lori Belair, Tara Fahey, Amy Muse, and Doug Plillips to a Certificate of Occupancy Deficiency List for property at 288 Laurel Avenue. Units 1, 2, and 3. Amy Muse appeared on behalf of all of the property owners on this appeal. Mr. Neis stated the he inspected the exterior only of the property on February 3, 2008 on a concem that the front porch was settling and was a potential hazard to the gas line. He then issued a re- inspection for the interior of the property for February 11 and when he went into the basement, he did not find the sagging of the porch to be a hazard to the gas line. He issued new orders dated February 13 which included to provide a signed affidavit that there are working smoke detectors and to submit a fuel burning safety test report to their office. He noted that he had also removed the language concerning the porch being a potential hazard on the new orders and the deadline for the work to be completed is March 11, 2008. Ms. Muse stated that this building was a row house of three condos and was built in 1887. They were aware that the issue with the front porch needed to be addressed; however, it was going to be an expensive undertaking and finances were an issue. They did receive a bid in the amount of $6,000 to remove and completely re-build the front porch. She asked whether they would be able to repair the porch rather than removing and replacing it. Ms. Moermond responded that the orders did indicate that the porch be removed or repaired and if there were no other structural issues that were found, they would be able to make repairs. Mr. Neis stated that this was a concrete porch with tile overlay which was sagging approximately three inches and he could not deternune the source of the sagging. His main concern would be leveling the floor so that it did not remain a trip hazazd. Ms. Moermond stated that she would recommend granting an extension to August 1, 2008 to repair the porch provided there was no further deterioration and it did not pose a hazard to the gas line.
