To the Honorable Mayor and Council
of the City of 5aint Pau].
Gentlemen and Madam:
This office has currently in process the acquisition of lands which
are required for the opening, widening, and extending of the Areh-
Pennsylvania Highwy. Included in the lands required for this open-
ing are the following described unimproved, tax-forfeited lands:
that part east of Capitol Heights of Lots 9 and 10 and
the west of Hillsdale Street vacated adjoining Lots 8,
9, and 10, B1ock 6, which lots are zoned for heavy indus-
try purposes; also (except the northwest 10 feet of that
part lying south of the north line of L ot 9 extended) of
ot 11, Block 7, zoned for light industry purposes; and
Eots 18 and 19, Block 11, zoned for 'C't residential purposes,
all of which parcels are included in the plat of lshton
and Sherburnets Addition.
The area to the east of these parcels has been developed as a low-rent
housing project, while the area to the south and west is generally
used for residential purposes. The axea aeross rch Street and Penn-
sylvania to the north comprises the Great Northern Railway Companys
Jackson S.treet shops.
The ,P,rch-Pennsylvania Highway represents a link in what wi11 eventually
be a major highway by-passing the Loop and its northern' edge. I, there-
fore, recommend that an application be made to the Commissioner of Taxa-
tion of the State of Minnesota for a eonveyance of the above described
tax-forfeited 1ands, under the terms of MSA Section 282.01, for street
and highway purposes, and further recommend that the matter be referred
to the af£ice of the Corporation Counsel for preparation of the appli-
cation. •
Very truly yours,
  .
