The Honorable City Council:
We, the undersigned property owners and residents on Jefferson Avenue between
mbe Road and Snelling Avenue, are hereby opposed to and object to the proposed
Ling, paving and partial curbing of that part of Jefferson for the following reasons:
11" The paving and particularly the widening would increase the already heavy traffic
and increase the danger to the numerous children who moat cross the street in
(
going to and from the Edgcambe Playground and the Randolph Heights grade school.
The widening would encourage speeding and dangerous passing especially on the
Griggs- Syndicate hill.
The widening for a few blocks would not improve the traffic flow because there
would be a bittle -neck between Pascal and Snelling.
The widening would bring the roadway close to the fine old trees and probably
destroy many of them through root damag ®.
When this job was included in the Bond prog j there were streetcar lines on
St. Clair and Randolph and they were.not suitable for heavy auto traffic. Those
i streets were later improved and surfaced and are now very good traffic arteries
from West Seventh to the River Drive. These streets are only about Q mile north and
south of Jefferson. There are other good East -West arteries such as Marshall,
Selby, Summit, Grand, Highland Parkway, Montreal and Shepard Road.
. Jefferson is almost entirely a residential street and the increased traffic and
noise would create a nuisance and depreciate our property values.
The present width and roadway are adequate.
