Finley was bom into the fabric of the great City of Saint Paul — taking flight in the Saint Luke's Parish-Summit University neighborhood; and WI�EREAS, John Finley would rapidly grow into a Saint Paulite of true form indeed — a man of community and a man of character; and WHEREAS, as a young man, John Finley excelled in al] things Saint Pau] — starting first at Cretin High School, where he rightfully prowled the basketball court and baseball diamond with great aplomb, graduating with the famous Class of 1958; and WHEREAS, John took the Saint Paul path from Cretin all the way to the College of Saint Thomas, where he continued to exce] in both athletics and academics, graduating in 1962; and WHEREAS, John's at6letic prowess not only secured a plethora of titles, but his baseball career earned him a place in Saint PauPs most venerable Mancini Sports Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, after graduating from Saint Thomas, John eventually took the great Saint Paul calling of Attorney at Law, graduating from William Mitchell College of Law in 1969 and quickly serving amongst a storied cadre of downtown Saint Paul tegal intelligentsia; and WHEREAS, before completing his law degree, John married the venerable Jackie Riley on May 22`�, 1965, settling firm in Saint Paul and raising three wonderful children — Bridget, John, and Michele; and WHEREAS, a man of community, John saw all that was great about Saint Paul and took an active role in its preservation and enhancement, entering the official service of our great City by running for the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners and serving almost 30 years — the longest in history; and WHEREAS, as a Saint Paul renaissance man, John also engaged a host of business undertakings in Saint Paul and beyond, notably serving as the President of the Minnesota Fighting Saints; and WHEREAS, John's service to the wmmunity continued wel] beyond his tenure as a Ramsey County Commissioner and his successful business and law practices, with his service as Judge in the Second Judicial District; and WHEREAS, not only did John Finley work to enhance the business and neighborhood communities of Saint Paul, he mentored and befriended countless citizens along the way who still look to John as an example of the strength of Saint Paul's community; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED, for his true reflection of Saint Paul, that on this day, December 23` 2008, the City Council of Saint Paul hereby declazes John T.
