WHERFM.9 The Commissioner of Parks and Recreation and Public
Buildings has reported, in accordance with Section 53
of the City Charter, the eaistened of an emergency
during the period from April 1 to 15, 1961, which
rendered necessary the employment of certain employees
of the Department of Parks and Recreation and Public
Buildings for more than eight hours per day or forty
hours per week in doing the following work=
Supervision, operation, maintenance, care
and protection of public parks And play-
grounds and of their facilities.
And WfiEWS, This emergency arose by reason of the following
facts and circumstances:
Seasonal requirements for protection of
public property and pursuit of depart-
mental activities, such ass Civic events
and municipal sports and playground pro-
grams required increased time and effort
of an unforeseen but temporary nature;
heating plant for the Conservatory and
Zoo must be tended around the clock;
regular employees ill; breakdown of equip-
ment required immediate repair; storm
damage to boulevard trees needed immediate
attention.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,, That the proper city officers
are hereby authorized to pay the employees who per-
formed such work in accordance with the provisions
of the Council's salary ordinance, Ordinance Noe 646e
