To the Honorable Mayor and Council
of the City of Saint Paul
Gentlemen and Madam:
The matter of opening, widening and ex-
tending East Sixth Street from the east line of Birmingham's
Addition to Barclay Street, by taking and condemning a strip
of land 60 feet wide in Lot 13, Homes for the Homeless, is
currently being processed under Preliminary Order 200666, ap-
proved February 2, 1961, and Final Order 201252, approved
March 21, 1961.
The parcel of land involved is forfeited
to the State of Minnesota for nonpayment of taxes, and in or-
der to acquire it at the lowest possible cost, I recommend
that application be made to the Commissioner of Taxation of
the State of Minnesota for a conveyance under the terms of MSA
Section 282.01, Sub. 1.
Sixth Street at this point adjoins the
new high school being constructed by the Education Department
of the City of St. Paul, and it is necessary and desirable to
have a through street in the area to fill the needs for ac-
cess to the school grounds.
Very ruly your ,
Milton Rosen
Commissioner of Public Works
