WHEREAS, The Como Friends is a registered not-for-profit organizarion formed to promote, support, preserve and enhance the
Como Zoo and Marjorie McNeely Conservatory; and
WHEREAS, the Como Friends is initiating a capita] campaign, whereby it intends to raise $8,200,000 for the betterment of the
Como Zoo and Conservatory; and
WHEREAS, through this capital campaign the Como Friends intends tp contribute to the City $2,000,000 towards the design,
construction and improvements to the Japanese Plant Collection Exhibits at Como Park's Mazjorie McNeeley Conservatory,
the first $200,000 of which has been approved and will be dedicated to design development and construction document
prepazation; and
WHEREAS, improvements to the Japanese Plant Collection E�ibits aze consistent with the Como Zoo and Conservatory
Master Plan; and
WHEREAS, the Como Friends, in its efforts to further the development and beautificatian of the Como Campus, hired Close
Landscape Architecture to develop a preliminary desigr� concept for the improved Japanese Plant Collection Exhibits; and
WHEREAS, there is a great interest in the continuation of this project; and
WHEREAS, to allow design work to continue, Saint Paul Parks and Recreation requests that a budget be increased by
$1,800,000 to reflect capital campaign funding to be received from the Society; and
NOW THEREFORE IT BE RESOLVED, by the Counci] of the City of Saint Paul, upon the recommendation of the Mayor, and
the advice of Yhe Long Range Capital Impxovement Budget Committee, that an additional $1,800,000 is available for
appropriation in the Capital Improvement Budget, and that the 2007 budget, as heretofore adopted and amended by the Council,
is hereby further amended as follows:
