08-1306Suspension 11/26/OS Council File # /j$— / � p� Green Sheet # ,3(}( RESOLUTION OF,SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 Presented by RECQGI�IZING KEN JOHNSON FOR T-IIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SAINT PAUL POIiT AUTHORITY AND THE CITY OF SAINT PAUL WHEREAS, Ken Johnson has helped shape development in the City of Saint Paul since 1982, when he became director of the Housing Division oFthe city's Planning and Economic Development Department; and, WHEREAS, Ken gaduated from PED and began his work with the Saint Paul Port Authority in 1990 as its senior vice president and chief operating officer; and, WHEREAS, as a testament to his business acumen and his clear vision for the Port, Ken was named president and CEO in 1991; and, WHEREAS, Ken has successfulty guided the Port's ship through economically troubled waters, strengthening relationships with the broader community and creatively assembling difficult redevelopment projects; and, WHEREAS, during his 17 year tenure as President, the Port Anthority has successfully restructured its financial obligations, developed eight business centers, built two state office buildings (includiog one with a fire station), guided the deve]opme�t of a major city thoroughfare and acquired the 3M Saint Paul Campus for future redevelopment; and, WHEREAS, the net effects of Ken's work can be seen in the redevelopment af 155 acres of abandoned or polluted land, ariracting nearly $l50 mil]ion in private investments from businesses which pay about $5.4 million a yeaz in property taxes and now employ nearly 3,560 people in competitive—paying jobs; and; WHEREAS, along the way, Ken's judgment and integity have merited him a reputation as a professional, tenacious visionary and eamed him the respect of his colleagues, the business communiry, e]ected officials, and neighborhood advocates; and, WHEREAS, Ken will retire his position at the Saint Paul Port Authority at the end of 2008 to spend some well-deserved time vaveling the western United States with his wife Judy; NOW, THERFEORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Counci] recognizes and thanks Ken Johnson for his many years of successful service to the Saint Paul Port Authority and the City of Saint Pau] and encourages all of Ken's colleagues and Saint Paul residents to congratulate him on the occasion of his retirement.
